Worst of The Worst: The Devastating Air India Crash

While there have been many disasters in India's aviation sector, the most recent Air India catastrophe, which ranks among the deadliest in the country, has shocked the whole country. The tragic event, which took many lives, has generated significant concerns about aviation safety. 


One of India's biggest aviation tragedies occurred Thursday when an Air India aircraft carrying 242 passengers on its way to London crashed minutes after take-off from Ahmedabad, killing at least 290 people, with a sole survivor. 

All about the Air India crash 
Atleast 290 people are dead after a passenger plane crashes on departure at an airport in Ahmedabad, India, health officials said. The plane, en route to London, hit a hostel for doctors when it crashed, and images show its tail protruding from the building. The death toll includes people on the plane and others on the ground, police said. 

Sole survivor: The only survivor of the crash is Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian origin. 

Cause of crash: investigation is underway. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are investigating. 

Passenger noticed something off: A passenger who was on crashed air India plane earlier that day has posted videos of technical faults during his journey. 

Former minister of Gujarat is dead in the crash : Vijay Rupani, the former chief minister of Gujarat is believed to have died in the crash on Thursday, according to Indian government officials.

Casualties: The plane, went down shortly after take-off, hitting a medical college hostel and bursting into flames. 

Passengers included minors and people from various countries. Injured passengers were taken to local hospitals, and Air India has sent a special team of caregivers to provide support. The crash resulted in significant damage to a hostel for medical students at BJ Medical College and Hospital. Reports indicate that 50-60 students were admitted to local hospitals with injuries.

Tata Group Announces ₹1 Crore Compensation for Families of Air India Crash Victims:  In response to the horrific plane crash the Tata Group has announced a generous compensation package of ₹1 crore for each family who lost a loved one. Tata group will cover the medical expenses of the injured also. 

Airline's Response: Air India has set up a dedicated hotline number (1800 5691 444) to provide information and support to the families of the victims

Government Support: The Indian government has activated an operational control room at the Ministry of Civil Aviation to coordinate relief efforts, with helpline numbers 011-24610843 and 9650391859 available for assistance.

 The whole nation is in shock and sadness following the horrific Air India plane disaster in Ahmedabad. Our sympathies are with the families of the fatalities and surviving as the cause of the incident is still being investigated. May the injured get better quickly and may the departed rest in peace. Without a doubt, the aviation sector will take lessons from this catastrophe to enhance safety protocols and avert future disasters of this nature.
