Woman on Walk aims to encourage the participation of woman in sports

Taking a cue from PM Modi's clarion call 'Beti Bachao- Beti Padhao', a noble intiative to promote sports was started with  the launch of Pre Event Press Conference at Press Club of India, Delhi,  by Women on Walk – an NGO which aims to provide direction and resources for women in the field of sports. Sportsmanship is a clichĂ©, and WoW aims to transform it to
SportsWomanship in India.

Today, women are spearheading progress and development in several fields of work, but sporting arena remains one area of concern due to inadequate representation of women sportsperson. After the legendary P T Usha, it is only recently we witnessed female sportswomen who created a niche for themselves and brought laurels to country in various sporting events like Sania Nehwal in Badminton, Sania Mirza in Tennis, Mary Kom in Boxing, Anju Bobby George in Athletics and Geeta Phogat in Wrestling.

Mr Ravindra Panwar, Trustee Founder of Woman on Walk while addressing the media said “We are organizing an event on women empowerment called ‘Woman on Walk’. Through this event we aim to encourage women to participate in sports and represent our nation.” He further added that  more than 5000 women are expected to participate in the event; he hoped to make this movement a grand success.

Speaking on the occasion Ms. Neelam Agarwal , an NRI Busines Women who works a lot with organisations related to promoting sports amongst women globally said, “ Women are no less than anyone and they have proved themselves  time and again by rising up to the challenges thrown to them. With proper guidance and facility they can excel and bring laurels to the country.” She felt very privileged to be associated with this mission and assured her full support to the organisers.

Dr. S . S Malik Joint Director Technical Education (Retd) , Haryana emphasized the fact , “SPORTS is not just a man’s game and we need an event like Women on Walk. This is an effort to provide women fraternity a fair platform and equal opportunities to achieve what she wants and deserves. This will  and change the whole perspective. So, with this special initiative we look forward to a massive outpour of support in the form of participation, so that we can drive home the cause of empowering women in sports.”

Women on Walk is scheduled to take place on 21st,February, 2016 at Leisure Valley Ground, Gurgaon. The event comprises of a 5 km walk around the Leisure Valley Ground, covering the area of HUDA city, Galleria market, Cyber hub and other corporate houses attracting maximum number of audience for the cause. Hon'ble governor of Haryana Kaptan Singh Solanki has given his consent to grace this occasion on 21st Feb, 2016.
