Foot and Ankle course introduced to encourage interest among orthopaedics surgeons

Recently, a Foot & Ankle course was held at Working women hostel,Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi. The course was introduced as a step to encourage interest in foot and ankle surgery among orthopaedics surgeons.

Our feet and ankles are one of the most frequently injured areas of the human body. Our feet are complex, rugged, constantly impacted yet intricately
balanced. Unfortunately, they are also most frequently misunderstood and misdiagnosed.

Dr. D.S. Rana, Chairman, Board of Management, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital who has got various recognitions including prestigious ‘Padma Shri’ award from the President of India inaugurated the course.

The Post Graduate training of Orthopaedics residents is deficient in foot and ankle surgery and that is one reason that this subspecialty of orthopaedics is ignored in India.

Dr Rajat Chopra, Consultant Orthopaedics,Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, said ”By organizing this course, we have brought various foot and ankle specialists on one platform to teach young Orthopaedics surgeons to diagnose and treat broad range of foot and ankle conditions that can occur at any stage of life, from newborn to teen years and from active adults to seniors. These workshops help the young surgeons to be a better surgeon in future”

Along with the experts’ presentations on various topics, a workshop was also organized on management of Bunion deformity and midfoot fracture stabilization. The workshop was sponsored by Depuy Synthes. Through this workshop, the young surgeons got the real experience on managing complex foot and ankle conditions on bone models under supervision of experts of Ganga Ram Hospital.
