Real development comes with private efforts and minimum government interventions: Gurcharan Das

Author of the book ‘India Unbound’, Gurcharan Das has said that development with private efforts and minimal government intervention is the only development that gives real and long-term results. Citing the example of two cities of the National Capital Region, Gurugram and Faridabad, he explained how

Gurugram, a rocky village devoid of basic amenities, was transformed into a world-class city today due to private efforts. All the companies of the world want to set up their offices and outlets here. On the other hand, Faridabad, established by all the efforts of the government has still not achieved the expected status. He was speaking during an event organized to mark the 25th year of foundation of the leading policy think tank Center for Civil Society (CCS).

Speaking on the topic 'The Dilemma of an Indian Liberal' during the 'Indian Liberals Annual Lecture 2023' organized by CCS at CD Deshmukh Auditorium, India International Centre, Gurcharan Das said that the government should focus on equity and liberty both simultaneously. On this occasion, the finale of PRISM Policy Championship was organized and the three winning groups were awarded Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 as first, second and third prizes respectively.

A handbook ‘Power to the People: Strengthening Public Service Guarantee Law in India’ was also launched by the founder president of CCS, Dr. Parth J Shah, CEO, Dr. Amit Chandra, Chairman, Board of Advisors Aniruddha Dutta and Advocate Prashant Narang. Dr Carsten Klein, Head of FNF South Asia, congratulated CCS for completing 25 years of existence and praised the work done by it.
