International Conference on Development Policy: A Beacon for Progressive Policies and Development

An ensemble of scholars, policymakers, and experts congregated at the much-awaited International Conference on Development Policy on 16th September, 2023, a high-profile event organized by Presidency University Bangalore in association with the Centre for Development Policy and Practice (CDPP).


This conference served as a fertile ground for the germination of robust policies aimed at India's multifaceted development with the vision of Dr. Nissar Ahmed, Chancellor, Presidency University. The conference embarked under the watchful eyes of the Chief Guest, Shri U T Khader, the current Hon’ble Speaker of the Karnataka State Legislative Assembly.

The event opened with a heartfelt welcome note from Ms. Sameena Noor Ahmed Panali, the Registrar of Presidency University, emphasizing the conference's critical role in steering discussions around development policies. Dr. D. Subhakar, the Vice-Chancellor of Presidency University, further set the stage with his inaugural address, highlighting the pressing issues awaiting deliberations in the different panel discussions.


An academic feat was reached with the keynote address delivered by Dr. Rajiv Kumar, the former Vice Chairperson of Niti Ayog, who shed light on contemporary policy concerns and the roadmap ahead. Following this was a special address by Ms. Neelima Khetan, a visiting fellow at CSEP, who elaborated on the nuances of policy research and its far-reaching impacts.

Insightful panel discussions, A series of incisive panel discussions formed the heart of the conference: "Debate on Data": Chaired by the distinguished Dr. Amitabh Kundu, an esteemed array of panellists, including Dr. Rajiv Kumar and Mr. Subhomoy Bhattacharjee, unpacked the profound role of data in policy formulation and governance. "Shaping India’s Development Policy": Guided by Dr. Rajesh Chakrabarti, the session ushered in a meaningful discourse on India's future development trajectory, with panellists such as Ms. Neelima Khetan and Mr. Anshu Gupta bringing their rich experiences to the table. "Education Policy: Quality over Quantity":

Under the adept chairmanship of Dr. Amita Dhanda, luminaries such as Dr. Madanmohan Rao and Dr. Aseem Prakash explored the dynamics of education policy, focusing on enhancing quality over mere numerical expansion. "Improving Health and Nutrition Indicators: Role of Policy": Steering the discussion was Ms. Puja Marwaha, with a panel comprising experts such as Dr. Tasanmeen Raja and Dr. Ali Mehdi. The discussion delved deep into pressing health issues and the role of policy in ameliorating health and nutrition indicators.


The conference symbolized a collaborative endeavour, envisioning a roadmap for India's future and emphasizing grounded and evidence-based policies.
