IIMT to offer global accountancy qualification

The Institute of International Management and Technology (IIMT) Gurgaon will be offering the globally recognised ACCA Qualification from by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants following an agreement signed on the 27 February 2014.

Students at IIMT Gurgaon will have an opportunity to
study the ACCA Qualification, which is based on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the standard with which Indian accounting standards will be converging in the next two years. The program will be launched in mid- April and will involve a multi-national accounting firm as a learning partner.

ACCA course students not only have the opportunity to gain the professional  level ACCA Qualification, which is equivalent to a UK Master’s degree, but also to gain a BSc in Applied Accounting from the top-rated UK university Oxford Brookes during the course of their studies.

IIMT Gurgaon is an initiative promoted by IIT & Wharton School alumni who wish to establish quality education in India. Funded by the holding entity of Radisson Blu Plaza, Delhi, IIMT offers internationally recognized undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of study in the professional area of hospitality and business management. The institute’s campus, located in Gurgaon, is fully integrated with academic, recreational and residential facilities for students.

ACCA, the global body for professional accountants has 162,000 members and 428,000 students on more than 170 countries around the world, with members working at the highest level in every sector. ACCA’s broad-based finance qualification focuses not just on core accounting skills, based on IFRS, but also puts professionalism and ethics at the heart of accountancy. It is also grounded in comprehensive practical experience requirements, based on competences and the achievement of work-based objectives.

Dr. Kapur, Chairman and Trustee, UMAK Educational Trust said: “IIMT is proud to foster an agreement with ACCA to offer its globally recognized finance and accounting program at IIMT’s Gurgaon campus. The program, offered at an undergraduate level in over 170 countries, allows a flexibility to either earn an Advance Diploma in Accounting & Finance in only 18 months or to further pursue a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University (UK). The graduating students will have an opportunity to work in multinational accounting firms and businesses.”

“The new program offered at an undergraduate level is very valuable as ACCA’s new global professional accounting qualification has been developed following consultation with 30,000 stakeholders around the world. The research has demonstrated that the demand for internationally trained accountants is fast growing and that there is a shortage in many countries,” said Dr. Vinnie Jauhari, Director, IIMT.

Ilham Punjani, Business relationship manager with ACCA in India, said: “ACCA is delighted to be working with IIMT Gurgaon to offer the qualification and produce complete finance professionals who are fully equipped for the world of work and to make a significant contribution to Indian business success.

“We are very excited to be working with IIMT, particularly following the recent announcement by the Government of India that Indian accounting standards will converge with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) . ACCA was the first global professional accountancy body to base its syllabus on IFRS and has long championed the importance  of international standards as it brings real benefits to business and the investment community in an increasingly globalized market,” said Ilham Punjani.
