Fashaioning Fairy Tales

Known for his exquisite couture ensembles, Shantanu Goenka’s collections recurrently follow the underlying theme of extravagance and elegance. His varied inspirations are portrayed with as much élan, and “Fashioning Fairy Tales”- an elaborate exposition of his latest works- is no different.

The exclusive exposition, launched on
26th February evening over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at Kolkata’s finest luxury and fashion destination 85 Lansdowne, saw the 80-year-old mansion transformed into a magical land of fairy tales. The fantastical inspiration manifested through the couture garments set against elaborate installations and themed décor elements from art, light and sound.

The couture ensembles have been designed using a decadently elegant and delicate usage of the new range of Swarovski crystals in tones of opals along with the crystal rose patina and crystal gold patina effects which bring alive a vintage look reminiscent of the fairy tales.

The exposition presented a series of curated displays that celebrate style and story, the relationship between narrative and fashion. Shantanu believes fairy tales and fashion have very similar narrative; they can script adventure, romance, all kinds of possibilities just through what one wears.

Every component of the exposition was created and curated by the designer to represent fashion and Couture through fairytales like Alice in Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and more.

Speaking about the exposition, Shantanu said “By converging fashion and technology one can play with fantasy to explore new ways of telling a story just as there is going to be a new dress, a new season, a new must haves, there must be new ideas, stories, and ways of telling them and this is exactly what I aimed at exploring through this exposition.”

The event saw Kolkata’s elite in attendance. Preeti Goenka (RSG Group), Harsh & Madhu Neotia (Ambhuja Neotia Group), Kavita Jhunjhunwala, Vibha & Rajat Kejriwal, Sangeeta Kejriwal, Dev R Nil, Jeet & Mohna Madnani (Tolly Actor),  Kunal, Alka, Harsh & Aradhana Dalmia, Nilangi Parekh, Sumedha Sarogi, Shraddha Murarka Viziyon, Ajay & Shweta Arya, Shalini & Nandini Nopany, Shamlu Dudeja, Mohanchandran (GM Taj Bengal), Ritu & Prakash Agarwal,  Nirmal & Poonam Bathwal, Ravi & Sarika Todi and Manju Bangur amongst others were all seen consumed by the magical setup and showcase.
