TERI BCSD Launches its Energy Chapter

With the aim to provide a collaborative platform for various stakeholders of energy sector, TERI BCSD launched its Energy Chapter on Wednesday.

The steering committee will include NTPC Limited, Solar Energy Corporation of India, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency, Schneider Electric, Vikram Solar, Delhi International Airport Ltd, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, and Energy Efficiency Services Ltd.

Vancheswaran, Director, Sustainable Development Outreach said “I am extremely delighted that TERI- BCSD (Business Council for Sustainable Development) is launching its Energy Chapter which will provide impetus to India’s mission to build a strong energy portfolio particularly in the renewable energy sector in the coming years.   Given TERI’s expertise in the energy sector the Chapter along with its member companies will aim to enhance the global competitiveness of the Indian manufacturing sector in sync with global practices thereby enabling the transformation of India’s energy sector".

Over 90 member companies of TERI-BCSD are expected to join the initiative. Key organizations include YES BANK, Tata Group of Companies, GAIL, Shree Cement among others.

Mr Dipankar Sanyal, CEO, TERI- BCSD said “TERI-BCSD, in partnership with leading industry players and government agencies in renewable energy and energy efficiency, is happy to bring to its members business justified, technologically proven solution.  The TERI-BCSD Energy Chapter will bring all stakeholders on a neutral platform to learn, work collaboratively and benefit their respective businesses.   We are happy that we received such an overwhelming support from business; once again showing their commitment to a shared objective - to achieve national energy security”.

A panel discussion, entitled, “Energy Secure India” was also organized. It was divided in two focused group discussions on the following 1) What will be the most cost effective way to achieve energy efficiency. It aimed to establish business case for Energy Efficiency: Cost vs Cost-effectiveness 2) India Renewable Energy Goals- Global Experiences, National Imperatives. It focused on Aspirational level of RE Energy targets by 2022. Fulfilling India’s RE impetus; how business can benefit.
Eminent experts from key corporates houses participated in the discussion.

The specific collaborative activities planned under the chapter are as follows:

Training and Capacity Building: Provide a platform to learn and share existing best practices in energy efficiency and renewable energy with the support from technology providers, RE producers, etc.

Support Technology Deployment: Benefit from collective knowledge and expertise of stakeholder to create a roadmap for specific projects including technology fact sheets on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

Establish an Energy Hub on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy to:
Showcase available technologies and solutions
Demonstrate successful case studies showing business case on each
Undertake pilot projects as proof of concept and help scale up
Knowledge Dissemination and Information Sharing: Engagements between various stakeholders would work towards knowledge dissemination to the outside world to create a larger demand of Renewable Energy technologies and encourage efficient use of energy.
