About Dr. Ravi Shankar
Dr. Ravi Shankar is Professor and Group Chair of Operations and Supply Chain Management at Indian Institute of Technology (I.I.T.) Delhi India, which is the highestranking Institute in India in the field of technical education and research.
His areas of interest include Operations & Supply Chain Management, Business Analytics, Project Management, Total Quality Management & Six Sigma, Technology Management, Knowledge Management, etc. He has also undertaken teaching and research at School of Management: Asian Institute of Technology Thailand; Aston Business School U.K.; French-Vietnamese Center for Management Education (CFVG) Vietnam, etc.
He has been acclaimed a lot of times in the past:He was awarded the “Best Professor in Supply Chain Management” in Global Awards category for Excellence in Education Leadership & Teaching by World Education Congress. In year 2007, Institution of Industrial Engineering (IIE) awarded him for Best Case Study, co-authored by him followed by felicitation with ‘Dr. Hari Singh Gour Award for Excellence in Management Teaching’ at 5th IES National Teachers' Excellence Awards in 2011.
He is also a recipient of Visiting Scholar Fellowship from 2 Research Councils in UK to work on a Research Project at Aston Business School, Birmingham and Loughborough University. He is also leading an European Union (EU) funded project, which involves 7 leading universities from India and EU.
With a rich teaching experience of over 34 years, he has provided consultancy to manyreputed organizations such as Xerox India, Indian Navy, Ministry of Environment &Forest- Govt. of India, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), ContinentalCarbon etc. He is the co-investigator in a Science-bridge project with Aston BusinessSchool UK, funded by Research Council UK (RCUK) & Dept. of Science &Technology (DST-India) on Bio-energy.
He is the lead Indian researcher in BritishCouncil (UKIERI) tri-lateral international research project on “Next GenerationSustainable Freight Transportation (NEX-GIFT)” involving Sheffield University UK,Loughborough University UK, IIT Delhi India and Rutgers Business School USA.He has published over 300 research papersin highly-cited refereed journals and conference proceedings. On many occasions, he hasreceived “Award for Excellence” for his outstanding research publications in EMERALDJournals (2004, 2005, 2007 and 2011).He is also the Executive Editor of Journal of Advances inManagement Research.
Prof. Ravi Shankar has co-authored three most popular text books: “Operations & SupplyManagement” (14th Edition: 2015; Co-author- Richard B. Chase, University of SouthernCalifornia), “Designing and Managing the Supply Chain” (3rd Edition: 2008; Co-authorDavid Simchi-Levi, MIT USA) and “Management of Technology” (2nd Edition: 2013 Co author- Tarek Khalil, University of Miami).He is also associated with anumber of National and International projects and professional bodies.
