VERSACE PROTECTS IT’S IPRs IN INDIA, CONDUCTS POLICE RAIDS IN NEW DELHI

Versace took a bold initiative in Delhi to protect its Intellectual Property Rights.  Upon intelligence being received from the ground that huge counterfeits are being sold at many retail outlets in Azad Market, New Delhi, it filed a Complaint at the Digital Intelligence Unit (DIU) set up by the Delhi Police to bust

counterfeits and piracy gangs in India.  Versace’s complaint was converted into an FIR No. 0460/2024 under section 103/104 of the India Trademarks Act, 1999, Police Station: Bara Hindu Rao.  

Further, vide Orders dated October 24, 2024, passed by learned Ms Richa Sharma, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Tiz Hazari Courts, search and seizer warrants under section 96 of newly enacted Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (“BNSS”) were issued.

A 6 member police raiding team was constituted on the intelligence being received on the ground.   On conducting the raids of four retailers – Royal Palace, Naveen Nayyar, Taneja House and Fancy Trading several boxes of high end counterfeits were seized by the Police.

“Goods with market worth of several crores rupees were seized in the raid.  The owners of the retail shops fled the scene leaving behined their servants so the investigations on the source of counterfeit is still going on. We are highly thankful to the DIU officials stationed at Bara Hindu Rao Police Station for their professionalism in conducting raids.”  Said Jasmine Hora, Manager (Brand Protection), Jotwani Assocaites.

She further added that “India is always placed on the Watch List of Super 301, an US IPR Government Report. Raids such as this inspire international confidence among investor communities to invest and do business in India.”
