An 8-year-old boy, Mohammad Sulthan, tragically drowned in a swollen stream near his home in Kasaragod, North Kerala, following days of relentless rainfall. The child accidentally fell into the
overflowing river while playing and was swept away by the strong currents. Despite swift search efforts, his body was later recovered. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant as severe weather continues to impact the region.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several districts in Kerala, including Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall—over 20 cm within 24 hours—for the next five days. The IMD warns that such intense rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides, and widespread disruptions.
An orange alert is in place for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, and Palakkad districts, where rainfall between 11 and 20 cm is expected. Additionally, the IMD has cautioned about squally weather along Kerala’s coast, prompting a temporary ban on fishing due to rough sea conditions.
Tragically, three people have lost their lives in separate incidents across the state due to the ongoing heavy rains. State authorities are on high alert, deploying rescue teams to areas most at risk of landslides and flooding. Residents, especially those in vulnerable and hilly regions, are advised to stay updated with the latest weather advisories and strictly follow safety guidelines.
The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as necessary. Citizens are urged to take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period of severe weather.
