BC Jindal Foundation Expands Skill Training to Boost Youth Employability in Howrah

Howrah, The BC Jindal Foundation, the social arm of the BC Jindal Group, has strengthened its employability-focused skill development initiative in Howrah through its “BC Jindal Skill Centre, Belur.

” The centre aims to train more than 1,000 youth and women annually across high-demand trades, ensuring over 70% placement to foster sustainable livelihoods and socio-economic advancement.

The initiative focuses on candidates from marginalized and underserved communities, offering vocational training aligned with industry requirements across five key sectors—Healthcare, Hospitality, Apparel, IT, and Industrial Technology. The programme covers nine trades: Industrial Electrician, Multi Skill Technician, Sewing Machine Operator, Domestic Data Entry Operator, Child Caretaker, Housekeeping, Food and Beverages Services, Phlebotomy Technician, and General Duty Assistant.

By equipping participants with industry-relevant skills, the foundation seeks to bridge the skill gap while creating pathways to stable employment. The programme also prioritizes women’s participation, aiming to enhance gender inclusion in the workforce and support long-term economic self-reliance in the region.

“The BC Jindal Foundation remains committed to creating value for people, society, and the environment through strategically designed social impact programs. Our Howrah skill centre aims to provide industry-relevant, short-term vocational skill training across high-demand trades to youth and women from underserved communities who lack access to quality skill training aligned with industry requirements. Through such initiatives, we will continue to work towards bridging the skill gap by providing structured vocational training and placement support, to achieve socio-economic growth,” said the spokesperson of BC Jindal Foundation.

According to the foundation, the Belur centre currently has the capacity to train over 1,000 candidates annually and facilitates placement for nearly 70% of trainees in relevant trades. The initiative is structured to respond to local and regional industry demand, strengthening workforce readiness while supporting community development.

“Our centre has the capacity to train 1,000+ candidates annually and facilitates placement for nearly 70% candidates in relevant trades. After receiving an encouraging response, we plan to scale the program by expanding trade offerings, strengthening industry partnerships, and increasing training capacity,” added the spokesperson.

The programme is also aligned with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). Through structured training, inclusive outreach, and placement support, the foundation aims to ensure equal access to economic resources and skills development, particularly for vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities and indigenous communities.

The broader corporate social responsibility (CSR) roadmap of the foundation includes a planned investment of Rs 40 crore during FY26 across multiple initiatives in India. These projects are expected to focus on healthcare, skill development, animal welfare, and nutrition, while expanding ongoing programmes and introducing new interventions. The group intends to intensify CSR operations in Delhi, West Bengal, Haryana, and Maharashtra, among other states.
