New Delhi: Vedanta Limited has launched a nationwide campaign, #HerAtTheCore, alongside a LinkedIn-led hiring drive to encourage more women to pursue careers in core industrial sectors. Announced ahead of International Women's Day, the initiative aims to attract women professionals to
industries including mining, metals, oil and gas, power and technology—sectors considered vital to India’s next phase of economic and industrial growth.
The campaign comes against a challenging industry backdrop for gender representation. According to India’s Annual Survey of Industries for 2023–24, women accounted for roughly 18% of direct employment across industries. However, participation drops sharply in core sectors such as mining and metals, where women represent only about 6% of the workforce. The #HerAtTheCore initiative highlights the need to close this gap as India accelerates industrial expansion, strengthens advanced manufacturing capabilities and builds supply chains for emerging technologies like electric vehicles.
At Vedanta, women currently make up 23% of the company’s workforce—well above the industry average. The campaign is built around the message “6% isn’t enough and 23% is just the beginning,” reflecting the company’s ambition to further expand women’s participation in traditionally male-dominated industries. By positioning women as key contributors to sectors driving the global energy transition and infrastructure growth, the company aims to reshape perceptions around career opportunities in core industries.
Commenting on the initiative, Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Non-Executive Director at Vedanta Ltd. and Chairperson of Hindustan Zinc Limited, said, “India’s growth ambitions require the full participation of its talent pool. At Vedanta, women today represent 23% of our workforce but this is only the beginning. Our ambition is to grow to 35% and ultimately to 50%. We are not only increasing representation — we are redesigning systems, deploying advanced technologies and building life-stage support frameworks that enable women to thrive in core industries. #HerAtTheCore is both a celebration and a call to action. We encourage talented women across disciplines to join us and help shape the sectors that power the world.”
Through the campaign, Vedanta is inviting women engineers, geologists, data scientists, operators and leaders to apply for roles across its business verticals. The company said the initiative combines storytelling, visible role models and active recruitment to demonstrate that core industries are evolving and that women will play a central role in shaping India’s industrial future.
