Fashion Trends for New Age Bride By Sayesha Malhotra Owner Saipri

Weddings these days are a gala affair, gone are the days of simple traditional functions and intimate family gatherings.

The shy bride has given way to vibrant bride who loves to participate as much in the preparations as she loves to enjoy each of the ceremonies whole heartedly.

Wedding functions now comprises of a 5-day affair with pre-wedding and
post-wedding functions ranging from – Bachelorette, Youngsters party, Cocktail theme night, Sagan engagement, wedding day, reception etc.

Traditional attire like a lehenga still steals the hearts of most of the brides for their D-day, but brides have now started experimenting with their attire for other functions. Gowns, cocktail dresses, one-piece saris are a hot favorite with the brides.

Drapes and silhouettes which enhance the personality of the bride with distinct cuts and fabrics are a rage this season. Draped saree which came in fad last year have been reinvented this season. The fact that its “zip it and done” with no pallu to fall or pin to pleates have given the girls a free way to carry themselves and enjoy the function.

A fashion check for the brides according to different functions –

Pre-wedding– (Cocktail / Bachelorette)– A gown with side slits and flowing cuts or a ultra modern piece with frill chiffons sleeves with yellow gold embroidery and self sheen peplum skirt.

Brides can also opt for a bold color like black for the cocktail night. This elegant gown has French lace with a lining of shimmer sequin work, the side slit and the placement of  lace is as such that it gives the gown a feel of sexiness and sophistication with a fit to die for.

For Sagan/ Engagement – a trail gown in bridal colors of red, pink and fuchsia with subtle embroidery and hand work with net detailing is the trend this season. Brides these days ask for deep backs and interesting cuts. They don’t shy away from a little skin show. Intricate sequins work or a dash of shimmer adds glamour to the gown.

For Reception: Brides ask for princess style gowns with long side trails or back trails and layered fabrics.

This is a beautiful tailed gown with appliqué and sequin work, made to fit every body type perfectly. Made on pure organza the lace on the belt accentuates the body.

Colors like golden, royal blue, sea green and bubble pink are hot favorites this season.
