Fortis completes 50 Liver Transplants

Fortis Hospital Noida, a centre of excellence hospital on Thursday announced the completion of fifty liver transplant surgeries in the state of Uttar Pradesh under the supervision of Dr. Vivek Vij, Program Director, Fortis Hospital, Noida.

Started in January 2012, Fortis Noida is the only hospital in U.P to have a successfully running liver transplant program.

The 50th liver transplant was challenging as the patient weighed 120 kg. In most cases, for an overweight patient two donors are required. However, the team of doctors at Fortis Noida successfully
managed the transplant with a single donor.The patient has recovered very well after the surgery.

Dr. Vivek Vij, Program Director, Liver Transplant, Fortis Hospital Noida, said, “Fortis Hospital, Noida has carved a niche for itself in complex liver transplant surgeries where patients and donors are living a healthy and normal life after the transplant. This milestone is an achievement to further our efforts and we look forward to more success stories in future. We hope to provide many more patients easy access to liver transplants through our innovative techniques.”

He further stated, “Our Centre for Advanced Surgery and Research (CASR) is a dedicated unit for treatment of liver, biliary tract, pancreas, upper and lower gastrointestinal tract diseases with the latest surgical and best techniques available in the country. We have handled the most complex and challenging casesof liver transplants, having done a transplant of a 10 year child old to a 65 year old man.”

Speaking about the clinical excellence involved in conducting the complex surgeries, Mr. Sukhmeet Sandhu, Zonal Director, Fortis Hospital, Noida said, “This is a momentous achievement as Fortis Hospital, Noida is the only healthcare hospital in the state of U.P to have an active and successful liver transplant program.
