Jasudben ML School Hosts its 1st edition of MUN

Jasudben ML School (JML), a premier ICSE school in Khar, recently held its first edition of Model United Nations (JML MUN). The event brought together 111 bright young minds from across Mumbai for a two-day intellectual journey simulating global diplomacy and policy-making. Organized completely by

the students of JML School, the debates in MUN were intense, well-researched, and intellectually stimulating, offering a practical application of classroom learning.

Known for its focus on holistic education and learning of young minds, MUN by JML provided a platform for participants to engage in meaningful discourse, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving, emulating the structure and proceedings of the United Nations. Leading from the front was Keean Gorakshaker, as the Secretary-General of the MUN. Supporting him in key leadership roles were Deputy Secretaries-General Aariana Umrigar and Rayna Singh, all from JML.

The inaugural edition of the JML MUN featured the countries that are in the official UN and Indian Parties. The 6 major committees had well-researched agendas and saw rigorous yet respectful debates among participants. The committees included DISEC (focusing on disarmament and the peaceful use of nuclear technologies with emphasis on the Non-proliferation treaty), CCC (Agenda- Cuban Missile Crisis), IP (Focus on Photography and Journalism), AIPPM (role of digital platforms and freedom of expression in India), UNSC (State’s role in international peace security during armed conflicts), and UNHRC (Human Rights Situation of Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang). With a growing demand for 21st-century skills such as public speaking, negotiation, and global awareness, the JML-MUN created a space for students to explore complex international issues and cultivate leadership in a dynamic and respectful environment.

Principal Damayanti Bhattacharya expressed immense pride in the students’ efforts and the overall success of the event. Reflecting on the MUN, she said, “At Jasudben ML School, we are committed to nurturing global citizens. The first edition of JML MUN has showcased the exceptional intellect, empathy, and initiative of our students. It is heartening to see them grapple with real-world issues and present solutions with such clarity and confidence. Events like this not only enhance academic learning but also build character, leadership, and the courage to question and create change.”

The conference concluded with a formal closing ceremony where the best-performing delegates from each committee were felicitated with awards, with Best Delegation won by combination of NM and Bombay Scottish Powai.

This all student-led MUN served as a reflection of JML’s teaching, where education needs to go beyond rote learning, and help them realise the power of dialogue.
